Form I-9 is an employment eligibility verification document that employers use to confirm an individual’s identity and right to work in the U.S. There have been numerous versions of Form I-9. It is important that you use the most current version containing the following designator: Rev. 07/17/2017N.
What may be confusing is that this form contains an expiration date of Aug. 31, 2019. We are beyond that. So, what do you do?
According to the U.S. Customs and Immigration Service, you should continue to use this form regardless of the expiration date. Prior to its expiration, USCIS published a notice in the Federal Register extending the authorization to use the form until replaced.
A revised version of the form is under consideration. However, until that revised form is finalized, you should continue to use the most current version of Form I-9 despite the fact that its expiration date has passed.
If you have questions on the form, email Tommy Lukish, VADA Legislative and Legal Affairs Manager.
